Vacation Blues... and a New Unit!

I always get a little bit of vacation blues on the last day of vacation.  It happens on Sundays sometimes too.  As much as I love my job and my students, I miss my little guy when I'm not with him! So today I'm focusing on having a great, fun filled day with my family... but of course I had to put the finishing touches on a new probability activity I was working on first!

A couple weeks ago, I bought my first MacBook.  We've had a Mac desktop for a few years, but I've never really used it for more than Facebook/email/photo downloading.  I LOVE my MacBook, but it's been a learning curve for me - figuring out the difference between the Powerpoint toolbars on the Mac vs the PC has taken me a little while.  Yesterday I played around with it some more, and this probability activity is the first one I've started and finished on my Mac.  And it turned out pretty well I think.  We'll be working on probability pretty soon once school starts back up, so I'm glad I got it finished.

If you want to check it out, here's the link!

Ok I'm off now to hang out with my family.  Happy Sunday!

A Little Update...

Well, spring break is ending.  We've had such a wonderful time off!  My little family took a fabulous trip - OUT of the cold weather and into the WARM!  We got some much needed Vitamin D, some fun pool and beach time, and spent a lot of time relaxing.  Now if it would just warm up a bit at here, I'll be a happy girl!

I spent some time today updating my Cinderella unit.  It was the first unit I created when started on TpT.  I've only been creating for a month or so, but I've learned so much already that I thought it was a good idea to fix it up.  After all, my first two sales were of that unit, so I thought I owed it to them to make it as good as it could be!

Things I've learned while updating...
1.  Creating things on PowerPoint is MUCH easier than on Word
2.  Transferring projects from Word to PowerPoint is MUCH easier said than done.
3.  What was supposed to be a quick fix, ended up taking me all day!

But in the end, I think the product is even better than I'd hoped!  I added 20 new pages of activities and am really proud of how it turned out!  Check it out if you have a minute!

Continents Reports

I'm on spring break this week!  My little family and I are taking off for warm beaches and sunny skies, which is MUCH needed after this lousy, cold winter!  Before we go I'm trying to get this blog going, which for me means clicking through all the options and trying to figure out what they all mean.  I hope you'll bear with me as I figure it out!  I checked out my "preview" this morning... and MAN my blog is BORING!  But I promise I'm working on it.

Before break we were working on continent research reports.  Over break I'm going to fine tune this project and we will get at it once school starts again!  Here's a little preview of what we'll be doing.

I put these together using a 12 X 24 piece of construction paper.  I played around with a bunch of layouts - I tried brochure style, accordion style, and eventually ended up with just folding it like a book.  My students have LOVED reading the continents books and I know they'll be excited to be working on this final project!

Thanks for reading!

About Me!

Hi there!  Welcome to my blog! I am a second grade teacher who loves teaching "outside the box".  I've been teaching for 10 years, so I've got the curriculum down pretty well.  I like creating projects and experiences for my students that extend beyond the workbook, worksheet, desk/table work to make learning more memorable.

A couple years ago I accidentally discovered teacherspayteachers.com.  The more that I played around with it, the more high quality, adorable, USEFUL stuff I found - and in the past two years, have used many, many items to make my teaching better.  This fall, I decided to jump in and join the fun!  I hope you will stop by and visit my store - and leave me suggestions, ideas, and feedback!  I'm very much a newbie here, and am learning as I go.  From what I gather, that's how most TPT members have done it too!
